Customer Need/Request:

This customer wanted to maximize shade for their students in their school yard. They were looking for a cost effective and safe way to add shaded areas for students to enjoy during recess.

Manufacturing & Installation Overview

The Process of Making and Installing the Shades:

After the initial conversation with the customer, they selected a product from the Sun Shade Co. catalog; 3 Single Post Umbrellas with Aquatic Blue fabric by Gale Pacific Commercial 95, and steel posts in Jet Black. Our team ordered the materials required to build these shades – Canadian steel and the Aquatic Blue fabric – so we could get to work on the manufacturing process.

Manufacturing a Sun Shade Co. shade involves cutting and welding steel to fabricate the umbrella posts using our CNC metal cutting equipment and coating the posts in an enamel primer, a multi-step powder coat process. While the posts were being made at our metal shop, the Aquatic Blue fabric was being measured, cut and sewn in our sew shop. For this job we used the Reliable 5400SW Industrial sewing machine.

When the posts and fabric shades were ready, a test fit was conducted to ensure the perfect fit prior to shipping out for installation.

This installation was quick and simple; our team was able to auger the post holes, pour reinforced concrete, and assemble all 3 umbrellas in less than 1.5 days. Thanks to our preinstalled EZ Tensioners,  tightening the shade with the perfect amount of tension was a smooth process. These umbrellas were installed for River Heights Public School students just in time for school to start!
