Customer Need/Request:
This customer was working with a small footprint on a pre-existing concrete slab and needed a shade solution that could provide coverage beyond the areas where posts could be installed.
Because the space had limited room for support columns, a standard shade structure was not the best fit. The customer needed shade to project outward over key areas while keeping the post layout compact and practical. A modified version of our Cantilever shade was the perfect solution for this customer’s needs.
Manufacturing & Installation Overview
The Process of Making and Installing the Shade:
Collaborating with ABC Recreation, Sun Shade Co. designed and built a specialized Cantilever shade structure for the iconic Covent Garden Market in London, Ontario.
The goal was to create a clean, functional shade solution that could work within the limits of the existing concrete slab while still extending coverage into areas where additional posts would not fit. By modifying our standard Cantilever design to 3 offset posts, we were able to achieve the shade projection the customer needed without overcrowding the space.
The shade sail was manufactured in our Lakeshore Ontario facility, using Sky Blue Gale Pacific Commercial 95 fabric and finished with Jet Black powdercoated steel posts (fabricated using Canadian steel) creating a timeless, bold look that fits well in a public market setting. The 12′ x 30′ shade provides a generous covered area with a 9′ entry height, allowing comfortable access and usable space underneath.
Because the structure was designed with an existing site in good condition and site access was ideal, installation of the steel posts and hanging the shade fabric was completed efficiently in approximately 6 hours. The result is a custom Cantilever shade solution that maximizes coverage, works within a tight footprint, and provides long-lasting comfort for visitors.
